We order our trees 1-2 years in advance so our nursery has time to attach a bud from the fruit tree onto our chosen root stock. Then they get to grow for 18 months before we plant them in the ground! Check out the bud joint in the picture above. Next see one of the Fred’s is carrying 40 trees to the planter. It's important that we plant the tree deep enough to cover the bud graft with dirt. We buy our trees bare root, which is probably different from what you would normally see at your neighborhood nursery.
